Must Read: The Rich Kids Of Lagos (16+)… Part 19
Aduke was dropped off at home, she met Tessy outside struggling to locate the house keys in her huge bag.
‘Addy. Whose car was that?’ Said Tessy, impressed at the departing Rolls Royce Phantom.
‘D.G’ said Aduke
‘Alhaji Gaddo!’ Exclaimed Tessy
‘Yes’ said Aduke, almost proudly
‘Wow’ said Tessy who appreciated good cars
‘He wants me to meet him in America this weekend’ bragged Aduke
‘SHUTUP!’ said Tessy, showing her surprise.
‘Yup’ said Aduke, fully bragging now
‘But I heard he doesn’t mix business and pleasure. What going on here? Are you guys going for a party there? asked a curious Tessy
‘Truthfully, I don’t know, but I like it. I think I really like him’ said Aduke giving words to her emotions for the first time
‘Look, keep the hearts and love songs away. Men like this are always focused on what they want and their attention span with women is usually flitting’ advised Tessy
‘Well let’s see. I’m just living in the moment and enjoying myself’ responded Aduke, backtracking
Just as they were speaking, Aduke felt her phone vibrate. it was a text message from Davis. ***Driver will pick U at 9a for UR appointment at the passport office. confirm location pls***
She smiled and responded ***Fine. Will be at home for 9am***
‘Who was that? Is that him again?’ asked a nosey Theresa
‘Oh it’s nothing?’ said Aduke, unwilling to let her friend know she had no passport.
‘So will you go to America with him?’ asked Tessy
‘Of course I would. Wouldn’t you have?’ asked Aduke, suddenly bold.
‘Then we have some packing to do don’t we?’
With that, the two ladies went into their apartment.

The next morning, Aduke was picked up at 9am and was taken to the Passport Office in Ikoyi. She noticed that everyone deferred to her and that she didn’t have to join the long queues. She pretended not to hear the snickers people made about her. One angry woman grumbled aloud about ‘rich men pikin’ but Aduke smiled to herself and said ‘if only you knew’.
Within minutes she was done and dropped back at home. She was informed that her passport would be delivered in the evening and indeed it was. Just as she prepared for bed, she received another text message from Davis.
***Intvw at American Embassy for 11.30a. Driver will pick you at 10.30a. All relevant documents would be provided and delivered to you***
Aduke was frightened because she had heard of how difficult it was to get an American visa. She should not have bothered worrying because, again, she got first class treatment at the Walter Carrington Office of the American Embassy. She began to wonder if perhaps, the interview had been a mere formality. She was given a slip and asked to pick up her passport the next day at the DHL office. As she came out of the Embassy and turned her phone on, she got a text from Davis.
***Passport will be picked up for you tmrw. Prepare to leave tmrw night****. She wondered how he knew she had gotten the visa.

Friday dawned bright and Aduke jumped out of the bed as soon as she opened her tired eyes. She had spent the whole night packing and her excitement had stopped her from getting enough sleep. Her day was packed with activity.
She knew she had to sort out an arrangement for management of the Spa. She had decided on having Titilope manage the spa. Titi had constantly shown great initiative and had worked at the spa since Autny Toks had opened the business. She was convinced Titi would do well. She just had to show her the accounts, stock and all other little details. Aduke believed she could trust Titi.
After showing Titi around, Addy did a quick mani / pedi and then went home to wait for 6p.m, her pick up time.
As usual, Alhaji’s men were on point and before she knew what was happening, she had passed through the airport protocol and was ensconced in the Bombadier Jet with a glass of bubbly champagne in her hand. She was living an experience she had only seen in the movies.
The interior of the private jet was amazing. The wide, comfortable seats had cream soft calf skin upholstery, cream rugs and the whole cabin was accented with shiny formica details. She loved the swivel chairs and was shown into the guest room by Svetlana, the air hostess. The Pilot had also introduced himself as Roberto. Aduke liked Roberto but she didn’t like Svetlana’s skirt, her red nail polish or the red lipstick. She was here for a hostess job, not to lure her passengers.
She decided to read a novel on the bed and did not know when she slept off. Before she knew what was happening, Svetlana was tapping her, telling her to prepare for landing. Aduke had slept for most of the flight! Before they landed at the Miami International Airport, Aduke splashed some water on her face and brushed her teeth.
When she got out, the usual first class treatment was accorded to her. Other than a reconfirmation of the name of her hotel, Aduke had no problems. She wondered if Gabbo’s influence also extended here in faraway America or if it was because she flew private. Whatever the reasons, she was glad she didn’t have to wait long. Immediately she stepped out of immigration, she saw her name carried by a uniformed chauffeur. She approached him and were soon underway. all she saw were the lights of the city as it was around 3.20a.m.
They pulled up at the impressive Trump International Beach Resort about 30 minutes later and she was escorted one of the huge suites on the 31st floor of the hotel. A groggy Alhaji opened the door, smiled at her and dragged her to the room with him. He encouraged her to try to wind down forgetting that unlike him, she could not will her body clock to go off. Her body was set for LasGidi time which was 6 hours ahead.
She looked at D.G’s sleeping profile and told herself that indeed God had taken his time to carefully chisel out this fine specimen of male flesh. His smooth forehead eased into a pointed nose that was aristocratic. Aduke reminded herself to stop staring lest he nabbed her at it.
A few hours later, Aduke woke up to an empty apartment. She vaguely remembered being kissed on the forehead as Alhaji went for a meeting. She decided to make the most of the sunshine and decided to take a walk by the blue beach which had called to her from the windows. The skies were so blue that she momentarily wondered if it had been painted. It seemed all the colours in this America were more vibrant than back home. After a quick shower, she went down the elevator and explored the resort. She didn’t know so much time had passed but by the time she got back into the hotel room, Alhaji was waiting for her, with a dark look on his face, his brows furrowed into an ugly frown.
‘Where are you coming from?’ he asked
‘Oh D.G, I went to take in the sights. America is so beautiful!’ replied Aduke intent on ignoring his bad mood.
‘Is that what I brought you here for? Did I spend my hard earned money only to bring you here to fraternise with young white boys and loaf around the beach?’ he asked
‘What do you mean? Why are you so angry with me? What did I do wrong?’ asked Aduke, surprised
‘Look here, I am no fool okay, I know what young people get up to and I would be damned if I let you do that Sh*t to me?’ he said. His anger barely controlled
‘I am going out for dinner and I have taken the two room keys. I would advise you not to step one foot outside of this room otherwise I would tell the hotel security you have stolen valuable jewellery from me. Just in case you do not know, there are cameras in the hallways and’
He put a hand into his pocket and brought out her new passport ‘I’ve got this. So, I would advise to do as you are told and sit still until I tell you to do otherwise’ the last word came out as a snarl.
With that, he turned and left the suite, locking her behind as he had said. Aduke was so shocked, she stood immobile at one spot. The only movements from her were the hot tears that rolled down her face. She had never been talked down at in her whole life. She wondered what she had done to deserve it. She wondered what to do.
‘What have I gotten myself in for?’ Aduke wondered.
This wasn’t the American trip she had fantasised about. Has she made a huge mistake?
watch out for part 20
