How To Hide Phone Number Before Calls - MTN, GLO, Etisalat And Airtel.
The following guide will show you how to hide your mobile phone number
before a call on any Nigerian mobile telecommunications network - be it
Globacom, Airtel, Etisalat, MTN and others. First, why hide number?
By default, when you make a mobile phone call, the recipient of the call will see your number on their screen as the incoming call. This will identify you as the caller and the receiver can make a decision whether they want to talk to you at all or they will talk to you later or other choices. However, there are instance where the caller does not want the receiver to know its you or you do not want them to have a record of the incoming call number in their phone. Or could be any other reason. I cannot read your mind. Whatever the reason, I will show you how.
Below are two simple ways to hide your number before a call on your phone.
1. #31#
Precede each dialed mobile number with #31# and the receiver at the other end will not see the caller's number. It will only read anonymous call, or hidden number, or private number. The advantage of this is that its a one-off approach and it does not hide you number for other numbers called. you only use it on-demand any time you need to hide your identity. To do this, if he number you want to dial is 08055555555, simple dial #31#08055555555 instead and you end up placing a private number call. Got it?
2. Phone Call Settings
Depending on your phone type and the mobile network there, under Call Settings on your phone, there is a setting for user call identity hiding. Go to Settings, then Call Settings. And you will see Show/Hide Caller Identity or something like that where you can toggle this choice. A possible alternative way to achieve this is via the mobile networks settings USSD short code. If you follow the on-screen instructions, you will see option to hide or show your call identity. The downside of this is that if you forget to undo this setting, all other calls you make subsequently will have a hidden number. I remember querying someone well known who asked WHO IS CALLING when I was confident she had my number saved on her phone. But when I asked if she had deleted my number, she said no but my line was hidden. So there was no way she could tell who the caller was. Then I remembered I hid the number the day earlier for a different call. I ended up being the one apologizing. So, remember to switch it back or use the earlier #31# option highlighted earlier.
Conclusion
For whatever personal reason, you are justified to choose to hide your number anytime using any of the abode approaches. They will work. And the other person will first not know it was you calling or the mobile phone at the other end will not have your line in its call record. Just remember that there s always a downside to every such choice. Think before you do it.
Secondly, be careful not to hide your line for very important calls like job or career related calls where every detail matters.
