The Story of My Life – Episode 12

That was the least I could do. I saw him off to the main gate and went back inside to prepare for my meeting with Sheila. After he left, I thought of my dream from the previous night and also of Kelvin’s coincidental visit which followed subsequently. Well, I didn’t believe in superstitions but the dream really ate me up.
I blamed it on the movie I watched  before sleeping off. It was a Ghost movie, perhaps, it influenced my dream. This could be a mere coincidence. That’s what I thought. Afterall I didn’t follow Kelvin to wherever he was going so all those things that happened in my dream could not come to pass.
I finished with my preparation and set out. Upon getting to the main gate I saw Kelvin running towards me. He was being chased by a group of people who I didn’t even know.  He ran towards me with the people chasing him behind. It didn’t happen exactly like it happened in the dream but how could I avoid this? Kelvin just came and stood behind  me, depending on me to save him from the crowd.
Within a few seconds, I and Kelvin were surrounded  by the crowd.  I was then caught up in another dicey moment: Should I deny Kelvin and hand him over to these men who really looked harmful or stand beside him at the expense of my own life?.
Aside the weird dream, Kelvin had really been a good friend to me. He had helped me severally in my times of need.  Where no one would listen to my pleas let alone give a helping hand, I could always count on him. Hmmmm, was this the best way to repay him for all the help he had given me??
I was the one whom he chose to run to for help. I didn’t think that the best I could do was to hand him over to these men to do whatever they wished just because of a dream I had.
What if these men ended up killing him just the way they did to me in my dream? Then Kelvin’s blood will be on my head? Would I then spend the rest of my life living in guilt? Do I prefer living my life as a murderer or be murdered instead?.
I came up with a plan; I sought for a way to save Kelvin and still hand him over. I opened the door for him to go into my room and closed the door right after him.
The men threatened to harm me if I didn’t give up Kelvin. I was wondering  what he had done for them to be chasing him with clubs and sticks, so I asked.
“Do you know Tunde? The guy who lives just across the street?” One of the men responded.
“Yeah I do, the guy who deals in motor spare parts.” I said.
“Exactly, this Kelvin guy just smashed his head against a wall and as I’m talking to you now, he is not among the living, get out of our way before we treat you as an accomplice.” He said.
“Speaking of that, don’t you think you will have a lot to answer to if the police get here and find out that you guys took the law into your own hands. Why don’t we call the police, then they can take the matter up rather than making things worse?” I said.
The angry mob began shouting, not in support of what I said. Out of nowhere, I received a slap on my face. They tried pushing me away from the door and that was where I began to realize that my dream was gradually coming to pass. Even though It was happening  in a different way, it was coming to pass. I feared for my life as the  crowd looked more aggressive than they were in my dream.
All they needed was a boost for the rest to join in. The slap was just the boost they needed.  In other to get me out of the way, they needed to do what they thought was the best, thus they took to beating the hell out of me.
A fist then followed an elbow, I didn’t even know where they came from. They all just landed on my face and the only thing I saw was blood coming from my nose. I became weak and even felt dizzy. I couldn’t see anything more. I didn’t know what happened. The last thing I saw was someone’s foot stamping on my face.
My dream seemed to be coming true and my life was at stake. I heard voices all around, people screaming and rushing in and out. I could hear them but didn’t see them.
As that moment, I didn’t even know whether I was alive or not, I did my best to save the situation but it seemed like I couldn’t prevent the dream from coming true.
watch out for episode 13
